Blog EntryF***ing Gas PricesMay 11, '08 11:25 AM
for everyone

You know I've had about all I can take of these freaking gas prices. I live in Oklahoma, we don't make much money here lol, before long people are going to have to quit working because they won't be able to afford to get to work. We live in an area where we are all rural. We drive miles to get to work. On top of that with gas prices rising so are grocery prices. I know many people who are already asking themselves do I feed my child or buy gas for work! This is insane......

Doesn't the Bush family own oil companies? I haven't checked lately but I do believe they do. Doesn't it seem funny that as Bushes Presidency comes to a close he is now possibly earning millions in the oil market?

GW/Dickey Doo/Al Bore and many others are OIL Rich Pricks who are letting oil prices peak out. the Bush's have some friends in Saudi Arabia who are jacking the prices. you arent alone in your frustration. they say we need to be like Europe in prices and thats fine but we also should be making wages that europeans make too.

Here in Poteau,OK the prices are almost $3.70 for regular unleaded. It is a good thing my little car can get me to work and back to the house on a gallon of gas. It is not all Bush to blame for the gas and oil prices, people in the oil producing countries dont like Bush, so they are going to make him look as bad as they possibly can before he leaves office. GOD bless you this day. {{{OKIE HUGS}}}

That's a cool site Bill (whose answer popped as I started typing my comment.)

Gas prices do suck, I heard they could get as high as $4 this summer. Right now our prices are around 3.69 (for the regular unleaded) Thank gawd we have an older car that is a wimpy V4.

I know what you mean April. And no relief in sight.
My views on it are that we need to stop letting the 'tree huggers' dictate where oil can or can not be drilled and start getting it from our own country and let the foreigners suck wind. There is no sense in this crap when their IS a solution. I'm sick of hearing we can't drill it here because there may be an accident and foul our enviroment. A plane may crash if you fly too, are you going to ground all airlines? I don't think so. Idiots.

Your website is probably better because it seems more up to date Apey, but the downside to it is you have to know where each gas station is to know then how much gas is selling for at that location. Downside to my website was it is updated by people buying gas. Thats why it shows the lowest gas price nearby is $3.15 but that is so far outdated it isnt funny.

The problem with getting gas ahead of time is that it turns to kerosene after a short amount of time (3-6 months) and can actually leave a lacquer on the insides of your engine, which of course isnt good. Figure that you would have to change electronic parts twice as often (or in some cases that you have to replace them at all) for letting the gasoline "sit".
What you "can" do to counter the gas going bad ("supposedly" because I haven't done it myself, but have heard you can do it and it works) is to add a gas treatment that extends the life of the gas.

My own insight on the "why use theirs when we got it here" is that the oil here isnt that easy to get to and it would be costly and problematic to get to. The problem is there is a "field" of oil in Colorado that is in the rock itself. If they pump heated carbon dioxide down there it would liquify the rock/oil composite and the oil could be pumped out. Trouble with that is it is too expensive to cause this change and might cause massive unpredictable sinkholes.
We also have a HUGE wealth of coal. Coal can be converted into oil and thereby any oil products. The Germans pioneered this technology during WW2 but the process is too expensive again.

How I think the government regards to any actual oil fields locally in the US is that if we started to use the oil in this country, then we started to run out, then a small piss-ant country like Iraq or any other Saudi country would be the last one holding the bag. They would be able to charge whatever amount of money for oil. More than likely, countries would go to war over the last remaining oil reserves and a movie like The Road Warrior would be life imitating art. That would be if a third world country had the last remaining oil.
Now, instead of some piss-ant third world country, imagine a country like America having the last vestiges of oil, which is predicted by bean counters to be between 20-40 years from now. Nobody would mess with America because we are too large a country and too far away to conveniently start an extended war over a dwindling resource. One would hope that the US would be nice to the locals and give us cut rates but I doubt it. Prices will soar after the midway point for the last amount of oil to be had.

What really scares me is the dependence we have on oil and oil products. Yes we are doing research into coming up with alternatives to gasoline, but we still need oil for lubricating the parts that move in a car. Grease is an oil product. What is more common that we use oil products for is more common stuff around the house. Plastics is one of them. walk around your house and realize what is made from plastic that we rely on every day. Pens, bubble wrap, food containers, heck the very computer you are looking at this on right now. Now people say "well, what are we recycling for?" but certain things can only use recycled plastics.
The little plastic bumpers on the bottom of your chair so things slide smoothly, microwaves, the refrigerator itself, all use first time non-recycled plastics.
Womens makeup, fiberoptics, and more. We found a use for all of the byproducts of converting oil to gasoline and now we are dependent on it all.

In New York, a private company called LILCO was pumping millions of dollars into making what would have been the first privately owned nuclear power plant (Shoreham). The Nuclear Regulatory Commission wouldn't allow it. So, then this company transferred all their research and building costs to the citizens of NY by upping their electrical bills, who hadn't asked for this nuclear power plant to be constructed. Cost for electricity went thru the roof. The buck was passed down to the "little guy" or the citizens.
My point being this, after Hurricane Katrina, the oil companies had two choices, moving their processing plants further inland which would avoid any further issues with getting battered by future hurricanes (very high cost), or repair what they already had and expect it to happen again (lower cost, but gambling that it wont happen again). Foolishly (to me) they decided to repair. What I cant figure out is that they got funds by the government and via Red Cross to stem off rising costs for gas. So why are they still passing the costs for repairs down to the little guy?

The Red Cross and donated monies usually go to repair the infrastructure of an area not actually repair people lost houses. That's what insurance companies are for, but try to get any insurance in Florida after Hurricane Andrew without being asked for an arm and a leg, IF available at all.

Yikes! I got to yaking here... sheesh

I sure agree. I check the MSN gas prices across the nation. Ours are bad enough but your state is one of the highest.
